just tested ruby on VBA-m and it boots just fine regardless of that setting. If the OP isn't using VBA-m he should try that. Also, give more details like what emulator he is using, what OS is he on, did he try extracting the file, where does the game freeze, etc.

I just read something while looking for that directx file about a game over-ride in Visual Boy Advance to enable Real Time clock under Options->Emulator. Maybe that will fix it?
