I never fixed the problem entirely; I just moved to a different OS. :-(

Anyway, what's going on is that when the download is finished, the browser attempts to write the file. Since the folder is "read-only", the process malfunctions, like you've described. :-)

The only way to fix this problem is by disabling the "read-only" function. But this feature is disabled in Windows Vista and newer. It states you have to log on as an administrator to fix this problem. Here's the catch - you get that message whether or not you're logged in as an administrator.

MS has gotten complaints about this for many, many years. They responded that it is a problem, but that "it's also a feature".

I don't see how OS would interrupt a DL, though I don't know a lot about windows, if this is the problem how do I fix it?
