The Ubuntu Linux Dial-Up Download Challenge!

I've been meaning to give Linux a try for some time now.
Looking over the documentation, it seems that getting connected to the Internet will be the most difficult part.
But what's this...

"If you have a good connection, download the latest ISO.
If you're on a dial-up connection,
online retailers will sell you a Linux CD at very cheap prices."

If you have a good connection. WTF! So this can't be downloaded on dial-up?
Pfft... my connection's good enough, but it is indeed dial-up!

Wait... I'm jumping to conclusions. They might just be trying to warn me that this is going to be a crappy download experience.

But I gathered that from the 693 MB file size and my 56k dial-up connection.

Hold the phone... could this be some variation on 'the Tom Sawyer ploy'? Are they tacitly challenging me to download it ?!?

Well, to be a dial-up user in the year 2011 is to be made of some pretty stern stuff. Some might even call it hardcore (others would call it hardcore stupid).

In any case, I accept their challenge!

In fact, I can do them one better than that. I'll be landing this download using my trusty Agere Win Modem.
