And if you don't have phone service and have just internet, disconnect any unused phone jacks from the block they hook up to. This can actually give you better speeds, even more so with DSL services. Anyone out there who has DSL and dongle filters, put one filter on at your connection block and separate your internet connection from all the phone lines. Having it go through all your phone jacks attenuates the signal and reduces your maximum speed.

Is there only one phone jack in the house? You might try an alternate jack and see if its performance is the same.

I'd also try checking your modem drivers. I know the drivers can get corrupted for a number of reasons, usually through no fault of the user (Windows being the incompetent dumbbell it is, usually).
