| Ahh Blackthorne, one of my favorite games as a kid. I first played this game on the pc in all its violent glory and then bought it for the snes and was instantly disapointed in Nintendo's decision to censor the violence, but I digress. This is one of my favorite games because there is so much fun to be had killing orc type creatrues with a shotgun, puzzles and oh so much more. Well I could spend the rest of the day spewing out how much I loved this game but thats not why you are here is it? You want to know if its worth your time to play, so without further adu on with the review.
Graphics: 8 Graphically I thought it was a near perfect translation of the pc game so the graphics were very good for the snes. The reason that it didn't get a perfect score is because they aren't perfect, sometimes the game is set in dark places and it seems that the graphics get a little muddy but thats about all I can remember thinking poorly about the graphics. Sound: 7 I really don't remember anything about the music but what I do remember is that the shotgun sounds were amazing for the time. I loved the sound effects for the shotgun and then when you upgrade to more powerful weapons the sounds get better and better. Another thing that I thought was a great touch was when an orc shot you he would laugh. I don't know about you but I really don't like being laughed at when I get shot, so it made blowing the orcs head off all the more sweeter. Gameplay: 8 The gameplay was fun enough to keep me coming back for multiple playbacks, something that a lot of games today can't do dispite their flashy graphics and amazing sound there is no fun in the gameplay. This game is pretty much the same the whole way through but it never really gets boring, which if you think about it is pretty amazing. One complaint that I have that kept it from getting a perfect score and actually knocked the score down two points was the controls. Until you master them you will be falling to your death on every running jump you have to make which I found to be a little frustrating until I got the hang of it. Overall: 8 Overall I think this is a great game that was a lot of fun to play through everytime that I played through it. I loved this game and while it's not perfect there is more than enough fun to make up for these little imperfections. I don't think you can go wrong with this game if you like action games. It's a great game that is worth every second that you put into it. |
