| I thoroughly enjoy this franchise and would like to state why this is in my opinion the greatest video game I have ever had the pleasure to experience. This game is simply a must play for any RPG fan out there looking for a fantastic story and gameplay. If you like humor mixed with serious moments please PLEASE give this masterpiece a try! Graphics: 10 While not the most groundbreaking visuals It has quite the array of high quality and interesting sights and for its hardware it has FANTASTIC moments and somehow pixel art that improved off of Earthbound's design. The visuals when in fights of course are even better what with the colorful backgrounds, the sprite art for your foes, and the lovely way the menu system works. Sound: 10 While the GBA sound chip did cause muffled and poor quality audio this game STILL manages to have a clearer and more crisp sound. This is also complemented by its beautiful soundtrack and wonderful sound design for menus and of course the battle mechanics incorporation of rhythm. Hearing the sound of a 16 hit combo is extremely satisfying. The design for the PSI sound effects are also wonderful and just great to hear. Gameplay: 10 Literally just incredible the beautiful combo system is fantastic as you constantly try to rack up as much damage as possible. The added run button improves on Earthbound's greatest problem and makes for a more solid experience where the player has a quick and easy way to travel. Then of course the rolling HP system returns which was already wonderful in Earthbound but it's just as fun and hectic if not more as this game has plenty of moments where you have to really think fast and heal before losing all your hp to a tough foe. The skills of your party members are also by far the best in the series (except for a certain nerdy scientist with Bottle Rockets) The party in this game without delving into spoilers is just all incredibly useful as they have a purpose that you will find yourself using. Much unlike Poo who feels a bit underwhelming when Ness, Paula, and Jeff are all you really need. Poo still is a bit useful with starstorm but nowhere near as much as others are. Mother 3 also has the added benefit of having a lot more options for the player to utilize in combat and a FAR better inventory system no longer making key items apart of your main inventory. Overall: 10 A beautiful game with a wonderful story. Mother 3 balances humor with drama making you smile but also cry. This game will bring you so much joy but also bring you to a world filled with ideas you may have never seen before in an RPG. This game is uniquely charming and the fan translation is one of the best out of any of them, it actively adapts the words to make it understandable for English speakers. Mother 3 is a bit more linear compared to its predecessors but it also just has some fantastic moments that showcase why I adore this series. It has inspired so many to build off its ideas and create magical worlds filled with wonder such as Undertale, Omori, Breaking ba-, I MEAN Lisa, YIIK...(bad example), and probably so much more that I don't even know. Please if anything I have said sounds appealing to you give this game a shot you may fall in love with it just like how I have. Mother 3 is a special game and I believe everyone should give this game a go. Even if you're not really a fan of turn based RPGs you may find something you love about it nonetheless. I hope that this game may inspire you as it has me. |
