Crash Bandicoot was one of the first titles released for the Sony PlayStation in 1997. It brought a new era of 3D hallway platformers with challenging platforming skills. It was a very successful game spawning hundreds of games and others such as cartoons and merchandise.

Graphics: 6
The graphics are quite solid, but they do not live up to the quality of the computer motion graphics seen in the motion picture film Toy Story released a year prior. Despite it being somewhat poorly aged the visuals are quite pleasant and can often feel almost realistic in some moments.

Sound: 7
The sounds are quite pleasing to the ear and aren't too hard on the ears to listen to. Unfortunately, this game lacks in-depth sound options which we now see in modern games today, but this isn't all the fault of Naughty Dog Team because of the limitations of the 20th century.

Gameplay: 3
This might be the worst part of this classic. Sometimes Crash simply jumps when not asked to in gameplay. The developers could have learned a few lessons from Sony Bend who released Bubsy 3D the same year. Crash Bandicoot on the other hand has an advantage in its level of design and world-building.

Overall: 5
Overall this game isn't anything but below average. You can really see why they never made a Crash Bandicoot 1 again. This is unfortunate because there is a lot of potential in the Crash Bandicoot 1 formula. After this Naughty Dog would go on to develop games such as Jak and Daxter Lost Frontier and Uncharted Golden Abyss which are critically acclaimed.
