| So I am reviewing this game because it is a childhood favorite. I will try to keep it as unbiased as possible because I know that that is important in a review, but I also hope that I can share one of my childhood favorites with any other retro gamer like me.
Graphics: 8 So this isn't Gran Turismo 2 in terms of graphics but I think that it has great cartoon graphics. The courses are so well done and really live up to the style of The Smurfs cartoon series (Les Schtroumpfs for anyone from Belgium or France) The carts are pretty much look all the same and there definitely isn't anything special, but I find it cleverly cute and artistic in some ways. Sound: 8 Alright there isn't anything special but I do really remember having songs and sounds stuck in my head as a kid and I haven't played the game in so long but I can still remember bits and pieces. Again simple, cute, and artistic. Gameplay: 7 It's not quite Mario 64 or CTR in terms of gameplay but it's cheesy and that makes it fun. The courses are actually pretty well thought out and there are actually a couple pretty cool "secret" unlockables. There are only two item choices, nine courses, and three modes which is what makes the game a little boring after a while. Overall: 8 IGN gave it a 5, but my childhood memories make this game seem so much better than a 5. If you love The Smurfs like me or if you are looking for a short and sweet, simple kart racing game to relive your childhood a bit, Smurf Racer is a classic in my book. A classic kart racer for the Smurfs fan or those looking for a way to relive their childhood :) |
