I'll tell ya - Willow does not get the props it deserves....if nothing else, it helped pioneer the "circle slash" technique, that "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" used 4 years later (I'm not sure if you could say it was the FIRST - but as a Zelda clone, it deffintly holds it own.).

Anyway, onto the review:

Graphics: 9
Very Colorfull, well drawn sprites abound in willow. Take the village where you start the game, for instance......you'll swear you died, and got transported into a magically craptastic monet painting.

Little swirley flower things.....well drawn, detailed huts....Its all there, in all its 8 bit glory.

As far as willow himself goes....well, he looks about as cool as a smiley midget with a perm could possibly look.....which is NOT VERY.

But, again, he too is well drawn.....and you really shouldn't let Willow's dork like apperance ruin the game for you.

Overall, very very nice.

After an extremely epic sounding opening theme, we start our game world with the most ANNOYING MUSIC YOU COULD POSSIBLY THINK OF. I swear, this song will make you tear out your eyes. But, thankfully this just happens to be the worst song in the game. Once you grab your magic acorns and your sword and head out into the world, you're greeting with a nice little midevil traveling ditty that isn't quite so hard on the ears....

Sound effects are typical Nintendo fair..... The little tone the Nintendo makes when willow gets hit, almost does sort of sound like a groan....and there's a nice little "ping", whenever you block a fireball.... Overall, they do their job.

Gameplay: 8
Ah, here's the one that really counts. Honnestly, once you get into it, this game is amazing. There's nothing really that outstanding or groundbreaking about the gameplay....its just fun. Its a blast to play. And while it may not be as intricate or hold as many secrets as "Zelda" (it can be fairly linear, in terms of "where do I go next?").....the gameplay is just as sharp (although it should be said that willow is a bid pugier than link, and can more easily take a hit).

But once you find the "rhythm" and "personality" of the game....(and once you're racked up enough experience points that you're swinging your sword at light speed)......its fun....

Overall: 8
I've had friends remark that this is that game that Zelda 2 SHOULD have been.

I'm not sure if I would go that far.....but it is quite good, for an action RPG....

If you got a few hours to kill, try it and enjoy.

Willow is a mildly challenging game based on the movie Willow. The game allows you to collect certain treasures and weapons which can assist you on your way. The challenge is figuring out which weapons and shields combination will prevent your being totally destroyed. A password is given each time you totally die which you can use to start again at another time on the same spot that you left. Watch out for the crabs! Not my favorite seafood anymore.
