2.5" with SATA-IDE or direct IDE 2.5" to 3.5" is too much fiddling. I want to remove the HDD because filling with content via 100Mbit/s network takes ~7 hours. Compared to 45 minutes plus removal/installation time for a direct SATA connection i would prefer a single stable assy to work with or another faster connection without assy removal. I don't understand why there is no industry need for exact 3.5" IDE case substitutes. Maybe a 3.5" bay for the drive is totally uncommon.

You might consider a 2.5" HDD with an IDE adapter. It's smaller size may fit in the bay with the adapter, plus it'll be easier to find a 250GB drive.
