Unable to configure ePSXe controller

Hi everyone, this may be a stupid post, but I am unable to get my controller to work with the ePSXe emulator , with the castlevania - symphony of the night, and silent hill. Its not that I don't know how to configure it, as I have several Roms, that I have been playing from other sites. When I configure the controller it works, then I run the ISO and it just stops working. Only with these two ROMS.

Any help much appreciated
