I always recommend cave story plus, but if you want to play the original version I get it. If that is the case, you can find it in the mariocube repository https://mariocube.com/.
I'm pretty sure you don't have cave story and I know it's a free to play game on pc, but on the Wii version there is more content including new graphics and song options (not that the new ones are better).
