Nintendo consoles have been less powerful than Sony and Microsoft ones ever since the Wii (which is so similar to it's predecessor the Gamecube they share the same emulator). That doesn't mean the Wii isn't the same generation as PS3, WiiU as PS4, and Switch as the PS5. Switch absolutely is a generation 9 console.

By the way, the last nintendo, known as the Switch, is assumed by many to be still an gen 8 console because it's significantly weaker than the xbox series or ps5... There are no gen 9 nintendo console yet following this reasoning...

Moreover, Nintendo is the only console maker which has all its console being emulated (hence why they are fiercely against unofficial emulation)...

By the way the "rule" is to have a least one generation between the current and last "possible" one... So gen 7 consoles are the last we can "safely" assume to expose...
