to make a long story short: A bunch of corpos including Sega, Sony, & the Entertainment Software Association sent the Lair DMCA requests; either take the offending ROMs down, or the whole website goes down.
While it's morally questionable (especially if some of the ROMs are almost impossible to get nowadays), they're unfortunately within their legal rights to do so.
If there are some ROMs that are gone, even if they had nothing to do with DMCA's, it's most likely just a safety measure in the event another corpo wants to pull the trigger on another takedown

why did you guys take down your roms for a while i was really sad when isaw that you took those down before but now i am happy when i saw my childhood game on the website again but what was the issue of taking down some of the roms that are big hits like gta san andreas or vice city??
