Update to sha256 checksums?
Posted by DigitalNomad on .
I am very thankful for this place. I would like to ask that the database update its supported checksums to sha256 as all of the others are cryptographically broken and the NIST recommended depreciating them a couple years back.
Updating to modern cryptographic hashing is crucial especially in an environment like this. The thing is, with the old checksums being broken anybody can alter the ROMs and produce a matching checksum with malicious binary inside. Running sha256 against the database continues the legacy of good book keeping and data preservation.
