I'm on WinXP and saving didn't work for me at first either. It seems that the memory cards have to be loaded manually before they'll work. Try this:
Load and run the game, then hit Escape key to get back to PCXSR menu. Go to Emulator > States > Load > Other... > Memory cards, and open the Mcd001.mcr file. Run the game and see if saving works properly.

Im using the O.S 10.9.4. Upgraded to Yosemite too.
When I go to a save point in the game, I click the option window, go to save...and it reads as having a "No memory card slot" as in, if i were playing on the Playstation..i would have a memory card in either slot...and it would read.
