xbox 360 controller not working with epsxe

This raggedy generic analog controller works, but none of the 360 controllers even register when I load the emulator. Tried plugging them into my comp both before and after loading the emulator, and nothing. It's barely even worth playing megaman x4 with this raggedy controller. Need dat fluid response on any game I play. Who's got some ideas?
