Sounds like a sensible move to me. I picture myself doing pretty much the same thing in the same situation.

Many people have been asking the same questions lately, questions that are answered in the FAQ. So the registration page now forces people to read the FAQ (or lie about it), and posts asking a question in the FAQ will be deleted.
