If the games 15 years ago are wanted so much today, then will the games today be wanted in 15 years? Does that mean everyone should go out and buy as many games as possible to preserve them for the future? Or can we rest assured that future emulators will preserve them for us and our children?
Our (my family's) collection of video games seems to diminish per generation: we have about 50 NES games, 30 SNES, 20 N64, 10 GameCube...
I know there used to be a store around my place that sold NES games on the cheap (they stopped that more than ten years ago)... and we used to rent games on a weekly basis (order a pizza for dinner each week and rent a video game)... so we USED to buy more video games than we do now. Come to think of it, I used to play more video games than I do now...
Anyway, my "new" collection is futile compared to my "old" collection. Not like my "old" collection matters at all, because I can have any "old" game by downloading an emulator.

I'd never sell my NES and SNES. I have both of those consoles from when I was a kid. They still work as far as I know, but it's a been a while since I hooked them up. I wonder if Chrono Trigger is still holding my save game. I only had one... all characters at level 99... on sweet new game plus...
anyway, yeah I regretted selling my N64 in 2000 or somewhere therebouts, but about a year ago I bought an N64 and a bunch of games so I got most of the games I really enjoyed.
but heavens no I'd never sell my SNES. God no.
