GameBoy games run through slot 2, the cartridge slot. Since the 2DS XL has no cartridge slot, it cannot play GameBoy games natively. For that you'll need a DS or DS Lite and a GameBoy flash cart.

i have just discovered this website and i think its great.

I would like to relive my childhood by playing all my old super mario games on my Nintendo 2ds xl which i have just bought.

i have an R4 card with some games on it but i cannot get the gameboy games to play i can get the game to show up on the ds but cannot get them to play. Any help and advice on if this is possible would be much appreciated.
