Gc Controller Adapter Issue

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me out.
I just bought a Nyko retro controller hub adapter hoping to connect my gc controllers to it and play Super Smash Bros Melee on Dolphin. After setting up the adapter and controllers, everything seemed to work fine and the adapters say they are connected ("adapter detected") on Dolphin. However, when I open Brawl the controllers do not register anything and are unusable.
Was wondering if anyone had this issue, and/or knows a way to fix it, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
