Connect VBA to dolphin without VBA-M?

So when I downloaded vba-m, the sound didn't work and cheat codes didn't do a thing. I was tryna use codes to unlock the tiny chao garden in sonic advance 2 and connect it to sonic adventure 2: battle but the codes doesn't work but.. the codes do work in the normal vba emulator. So 2 problems in vba-m. btw I downloaded vba-m at emuparadise
