I think it isn't saving your games because of the folder your ROMs are in

I would recommend creating a new folder on your desktop, call it Games, or ROMs or anything you like. Put one game in it. Then open that game with the emulator and create a save state by pressing Shift F10 and see if new save files get created in the new folder on your desktop with your ROM in it

Make sure the emulator isn't in full screen so you can see the folder open on your desktop

the saves werent loading up, so i had to manually save the game states instead of shift f10

that didnt work as they ended up frozen, but im trying out different ways to save now
