My original idea was if you were to go into a website for roms to download could a vpn help keep you anonymous from your internet provider or others in order to reduce the chance of getting into trouble?

VPN's can let you switch your country's internet, so say if you wanted to watch mission impossible 2 on Netflix, just switch it to Canada and Boom! you can watch their offerings.
