Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction Geo Laser

so i'm at a point in the game where i need to use a geo laser thing to be able to break through a wall and i need to tilt the controller to use it. unless i can fix this issue by just getting a ps3 controller and using that to be able to "tilt to use", currently using xbox controller, how to i get the whole damn tilt thing to work???
