One app IObit Malware Fighter had a "Ads Removal" switch. But it was turned off. Comodo Antivirus wouldn't open. That bothered me, so I force deleted it.

I have one guess that is most likely wrong, but still worth a shot: You may have an app or something that has an in-built ad blocker or is acting finicky. I only use a free version of Malwarebytes, but I'm not sure if Norton, McAfee or anything similar have any ad-blockers. That or they could be running afoul.
