It still happens that after a disappointing sequel to a groundbreaking game, a new sequel is made where all that went wrong with its predecessor is made up for. I am referring, of course, to the game Megaman X3, which, after the disappointing X2, proves and shows there is still fresh blood in not only the Megaman X world but in the Megaman world at large.

Graphics: 9
Wonderful. The Mavericks' sprites are more detailed than ever, and the environments are very luscious and enjoyable to battle through. The frozen city in Blizzard Buffalo’s stage is chilling to behold.

Sound: 8
This game holds many good tunes, especially "Blast Hornet" and "Tunnel Rhino"'s, and carries the atmosphere on its shoulders. The boss battle tunes are also particularly impressive and blood-pumping. X1's music is a little better, though, but this runs a close follow-up, only held back by a few tunes like Gravity Beetle's stage.

Gameplay: 10
I believe that the heart and soul of any Megaman game is its boss characters. And as such, this game has a very strong, healthy heart beating indeed. This game features my two favourite Mavericks, Blizzard Buffalo and Tunnel Rhino, but it offers, on the whole, very imaginative and fascinating boss characters, some more fascinating to some than others.

The storyline is very captivating as well. Reploid scientist Dr Doppler neutralized the virus which makes Reploids go Maverick, and he and some of the most advanced Reploids, adopting him as their mentor, built the town of Dopplertown together, an utopian community. But then the virus shows up in that very group of Reploids who built Dopplertown and they go on the rampage.

Aside from battling as X, you get to switch to Zero any time you wish in a level, but only once while tackling a level. I find it handy to switch to him when X's energy is depleting, but otherwise, X upgrades so that switching to Zero is more just enjoyable for the sake of change than for the sake of difficulty. Speaking of difficulty, this game is the toughest Megaman game of the lot, much tougher than X1, and that's a good thing. You'll have your work really cut out for you here.

Overall: 9
A Megaman X game like they should be. Really any Megaman (X) fan's heaven - imaginative boss characters, good music and challenges that will have even the most seasoned Megaman working his fingers raw. But the best thing is, this game has that "feel" which I love about it. I particularly love the Mavericks I mentioned, and that's one piece of the puzzle that makes up the game.

This game is also available as a PC version, unless I'm much mistaken, including these impressive anime FMV intro sequences for each Maverick. It's hard to find, but never give up, eh?

The Megaman X series continues with X3. Megaman X was great, Megaman X2 was good. This one has its high points, like the new upward dash, using Zero's help in some stages. Yet it has its bad spots...

Graphics: 10
These improved from X2, although Zero's sprite is quite large and moves rather slow in animation, as if running in a dream sequence. The enemies, though, are a little more detailed and move quite well.
The backgrounds are rather vague, though the shot of the city frozen over in Blizzard Buffalo's stage was ok.
I also liked X's golden armor look, which almost has a metallic shine to it. His sprite moves very well, and has good animations, especially with the upward dash.
The only drawback is that some of the mavericks, such as B. Buffalo, are HUGE. I didn't think buffaloes were any bigger than a human being.

Sound: 3
Mmm, the most major drawback of the game. Most of the tunes are VERY annoying, since they repeat a lot and sound very scratchy, like an old tape player's playback. The only theme I liked was Toxic Seahorse's theme, which didn't repeat as much as say...every other stage in the game.
The only thing that makes the sound a little better is that some sound effects drown out parts of the tunes, making them less noticeable. Good move, in my opinion, anyway.

Gameplay: 6
Surprisingly, the gameplay is alright, although Zero can't enter any gates in maverick stages, making his playtime less than 1/3 of each stage. But the plot is pretty good, but then again, you always know its gonna be Sigma behind it all. I come back to this one more than X2, simply because the control is better, though not as great as X1's. I also liked X's upgrades, such as being able to dash twice in the air, and refilling his energy slowly.

Overall: 8
Of the good and the bad, the good barely squeaks by the bad and makes this out to be an ok game. If it weren't for the sound or the limitations with playing as Zero, this would be my all-time favorite. Other than that, this is my second favorite next to X1.

And the ending is always the same...X pondering about his place in the universe...oy.

MegamanX games have always been a personal favorite of mine, and this one is no exception. I like the thought of being able to use Zero to back up X when he gets into a tight spot. Beware, gamers, though! If Zero dies at anytime after the first level, you can NEVER use him again in the same game. You have been warned!

As stated in another review graphics remain unchanged from X1 and X2, which isn't a bad thing. The music is pretty good, although it really cannot touch the Bridge Theme in X1 or most of the songs from ChronoTrigger. SFX are great, everything from the explosions to Zero's beam sword. The gameplay is great; by far the hardest MegaMan game; this game isn't for newbies! MMX3 is yet another solid platform game by Capcom.

Also my fav in the series on SNES. I like X4 the best only cuz I haven't played X5. OH NO!!!!!! SAY IT AIN'T SO!! NOW THERE ARE... wait, should I tell you? Well, I s'pose it won't affect the space/time continuim too badly. Well, there are now, as opposed to 2, 3 ENDINGS!!!!!! Also, they made it much easier to find all the upgrades. You can control Zero in this one whenever you like. I'm an idiot and couldn't figger out how to get Zero, but for all you idiots(like me) out there, here is how: Press start, in the menu screen push R and you will see a transmitter with Zero's pic, then push start. Now you're Zero! However, don't use him towards the end unless its to preserve energy as X becomes greatly superior to Zero(contrary to X4, cuz Zero ROX!) I recommend this game and I also recommend its sequal Megaman X4 for the PSX.
Cya latah!

Megaman X3. My favorite of the series...

Graphics

They remain unchanged. Still look great though.

Sound

Do you like elctric guitars? Because this game is filled with them! I love it!!!

Gameplay

You get to use Zero's Beam Sabre in this game! Apart from the it remains the same.

Storyline

All of the mavericks are neutralized thanks the the efforts of a reploid scientist named 'Dr. Doppler'. His Neuro Computer suppresses all abnormal behaviour and stops the reploids from going maverick. Some of the most advanced reploids form 'Dopple Town', a perfect utopian commuintiy. The world seems set to enter a new golden age. A few months later...

All of the reploids that were supposed to be neutralized by the Neuro Computer suddenly appered and started to riot.

All of the intelligence indicated that Dr. Dopple was behind all of this. The call went out for maverick hunters Megaman X and Zero to find Dr. Doppler and bring him to justice. A few hours later emergency contact was made with Maverick Hunter Headquaters.

"We are under attack from the Doppler force. All units return to base and return fire."

Overall

My favorite of the entire series. Play it now!
