Final Fantasy nine is a bit of a throwback to older games in the series, so it isn't like 8 or 7. It has a lot of references to older games and is a joy to go through whether you are familiar with the series of not.

Graphics were some of the best for the Pplaystation, the style might put some off with it's somewhat cartoonish style, but it is still a gorgeous game cutscenes and all. In game models are a little jagged but overall it is a pretty good looking game for the Playstation era.

Sound: 10
The one thing that is universal about this game is the soundtrack. This game has some of the best music found in the whole series, and includes some of my personal favorites. The music does a great job of creating mood and atmosphere that helps illustrate the situation occurring on screen.

Gameplay: 8
Final Fantasy Nine has the usual active time battle system, except this time you have four party members. None of the bosses hp goes above 70,000, so it isn't a particular tough game, more of a relaxing game to play through without much worry of grinding or trouble finding what exactly you are supposed to do. The game moves at a great pace and the story is fairly good but isn't groundbreaking. Characters in the party all have a specific pre-defined role (i.e. white mage, thief, black mage etc.) which lets the player figure out which characters work well with one another. If you are a devoted Final Fantasy fan, I would suggest this game but go in with an open mind. If you haven't played a lot of RPGs before and wanted to get into it, I would recommend this game because it is easy to get into and fun to play through without a lot of grinding, puzzle solving, etc.

Overall: 9
I think the soundtrack alone is a reason to check out this game, but the whole experience is a joy to go through. It is very obvious that the developers put their heart and soul into this game, and it shows with every set piece, cutscene and battle that has stuck with me til this day.

Try this game if you are looking for a fun RPG that doesn't waste your time with a lot of grinding and repetitive gameplay.
