Monster Rancher was one of my all-time favorite games on the Playstation. This was the sequel and also the reason there was no Monster Rancher 3.

Graphics: 5
The one area that Tecmo could have improved upon their series was graphics. They made the training a little more aesthetically appealing, but not much else really changed.

Sound: 8
There isn't a whole lot to sat about the sound for this game. More of the same well-written music as the first game. Battles feel intense, your heart rate goes up when your monster is Lost!, and the farm feels, well, like a farm.

Gameplay: 8
I found myself missing our previous helper and a little annoyed by the immature new trainer assigned to assist the rancher in this sequel. It still features the same unforgettable training and fighting style of the first game. Some of the things that worked well in the first game were expanded, but you won't necessarily enjoy the change. Your monster can now get a Great! when training, getting a nice bonus to his stat increase, but he can also randomly Cheat! incurring a penalty that seems unfair to the trainer.

Overall: 8
There are more monsters than before, there are more places to adventure than before, and you have the wonderful ability to revive your secret monsters from the first game.

I would say this was more of an expansion to Monster Rancher than a sequel, but with a game as great as the original, there wasn't really much to improve upon except graphics.
