Asura's Wrath, the living breathing anime game. A rather unconventional title from Capcom, but one that is 100% worthy of being considered a needle in the haystack of its genre. As a warrior god framed for his emperor's murder, forced to live with the death of his wife and the betrayal from his former allies, this game makes you feel the rage that Asura feels... and it's perfect.

Graphics: 10
With a stunning mix of good 3D and fantastic texture work, Asura's Wrath wears its anime influence upon its sleeve whilst maintaining a sense of realism. Its Japanese/Hindu mythology elements blend wonderfully with the more sci-fi aspects of its art design, giving it a flair not many games bring to the table. It also often pushes it's models to the breaking point in order to show just how intense the characters in this game are.

Sound: 9
The punchy sound effects work amazingly at selling just how powerful you are in this game. Every punch, kick, headbutt, sword slash, energy blast, midair boost and explosion give back an absolutely beautiful feeling of pure destruction, fitting a man of Asura's power. The soundtrack, while a bit repetitive, gives an anime flair to its battles and a general bombastic feel that makes it truly stand out.

Gameplay: 8
The gameplay? Compared to the rest of this game? A bit weak. A spectacle fighter with a light combat system and over-reliance on QTEs lead to a rather average feeling gameplay loop every time you fight. But, I feel like the gameplay was weak to make way for the true spectacle of this game. The weak combat often gets blown to the wayside as you watch Asura ram his foot directly into an enemy's face or ram his fist so hard into a boss' stomach that they do that one anime trope where they choke at the sheer force of the hit. A weak gameplay loop saved by a flair not many spectacle fighters have.

Overall: 9
As a quote from the great Maximillian Dood once said (Sorry if I butcher this), "It's a 6-7/10 game that should have been Game of the Year." It's a rather weak game on the gameplay aspect, but the visuals, sound design and the sheer spectacle of this spectacle fighter more than make up for its weak gameplay.
