Do you have Automatic Updates enabled? By my Win7 experience, all my programs functioned less and less every time Win7 was updated. Regarding the programs that actually *would* install *and* run on the OS, 90% of them no longer function without error boxes of some sort, and those that do either crash later, or have numerous menus that cause the program to crash should you try to open them.
I'm honestly convinced that Microsoft isn't trying anymore. I tried out Windows 8, and all the problems that plagued Windows Vista *and* Windows 7 are still present and accounted for. I can live with the changed GUI in Windows 8, but the Read-only problems and the DirectX conflicts are inexcusable for me. :-(

It's new to me also but I haven't had any crashing problems. I've mostly just testing games and snapping screen shots though. Dolphin's a real monster, my humble dual-core system can only play most games at half speed.
