Having trouble remembering a game...

I never owned a SNES, so the game I'm trying to remember was a game I rented on either the NES, or Sega Genesis. I'm hoping it's on the NES so I have a chance of finding it on here. Anyway, the game is a third person view of a male character who is basically just running forward throughout the whole game. You can't stop, you're just constantly running, and I guess the point of it is to jump over gaps and objects and make it to the end of the level. I definitely remember one of the levels looked like a desert. Think something that looks like Rad Racer, but with a person on foot instead of driving a car, and there's no road. That's really all I remember. I know it sounds retarded but if anybody has any idea what that might be then feel free to tell me what you think. Thanks.
