300 is preferred since people can view at a lower rersolution if they want, but they can't view at a high resolution if it's not high to begin with. So, higher is always better. png is also preferred over jpg as the resolution can be set without any loss in quality.
What is the preferred: 150 dpi or 300 dpi?
