I originally thought that It was a company that DMCA'd it and forced it to shut down until I saw the post
basically, The site admin is quitting and leaving the site in read-only mode because a group of site users, claiming to be able to fund the site's continuation, tricked her into giving out her personal info, which they then used for the purpose of harassment.
so, it wasn't any company this time, it was just a bunch of assholes

Go checkout Romhacking.net's front page for the news posting. The site is switching to news only, but has put up all files on the internet archive. super sad to see it go.
