I am playing on FCE Ultra. I have saved my game just outside the Ice Cave by using a house. When I enter the Ice Cave and take the stairway to the second floor of the cave, the screen turns blue and nothing else happens. That's it. It just turns blue. I've put in quite a few hours, and this is driving me nuts. Do you think it's the ROM, or a bug in it, or what?

Depends what you mean by technical difficulties... I think you need to be more specific. If it's just getting it to run try using RockNESX or FCE Ultra emulators. I've played it on both. I think you can get them both from this site. If your problem is saving, the original FF did have the same kind of save as games do today. You had to hold the reset button or something... something you can't do on an emulator. For that you'll just have to use save states, a save feature built into the emulator. If it's anything else you'll have to specify.
