This isn't a solution, but as a stop-gap there's always the option of trying the Wii version which is pretty light-weight to emulate.

I downloaded Tetris Party Deluxe the other day and put the rom on an SD card to play on my homebrewed DSI. It will freeze when every I play any game mode after awhile. I think the rom is no good, as I have many other games that work fine.
