The bandwidth issue can get pretty bad. I will have times where I can download a game at 2MB / sec and then later in the day it drops to half that speed. I've been trying to fill Wii games and its been a long ongoing process.
As computers and internet connections get faster and faster, the people who use them get less and less patient. When this website was first established, downloading 160 megabytes in 38 minutes would have been lightning fast as 56k modems were the best you could get in 1997.
Aside from that, people need to learn how bandwidth works so they can realize that when the download speed starts dropping, it usually just means other people are downloading files at the same time as them.
