Probably should've added, some older games would limit resolution/framerate to different things depending on the standards like NTSC or PAL, but that's phased out nowadays I believe.
For an emulator the only difference would be things they added or removed in a region. The most common difference for older games is language selection, but you can check the cutting room floor for a game to see if it has any regional changes.
