OK, I might do it wrong on Mutant Academy (downloaded and tried only once), but I am pretty sure I did the exact same thing to Next Dimension, Legends and Legends 2 (downloaded them twice) as I did to other PS2 games I've downloaded from here (Dragon Quest VII, Justice League Heroes, Superman Returns, and they are all OK), with the same "corrupted files" result.
Whatever it is you're doing, you're doing it wrong. I just tested out X-Men - Mutant Academy (USA) and it extracted fine
