ROM hacking is the act of modifying a game (ROM). Clever hackers can change the graphics, sound, gameplay, fix bugs, or even translate games to new languages. The result is a patch file which, when applied to the original game, transforms it into something new.

For years romhacking.net was the place to download patches. Recently they stopped accepting new submissions but released their database and files for others to carry the torch.
