genghis khan save

Every time I save my genghis khan game for NES(through the save option on the "other" option screen in the game), it will always say no data saved when I go to resume it later. Is there anything else I can do to get it to save my game? Saving works fine with my other NES games I have downloaded. Please help. Thanks in advance!
