How to use the code search on the snes9x

If you haven't already beaten the game without cheats, you really should. Cheats are fun and all, but you should play the game the way it was supposed to be played first. Cheating is probably in the SNES9X FAQ, but I'm too lazy to look through it (but you shouldn't be). Anyway, how this thing works: 1) Load your game file or start a new game -- have an actual value for your gold that you can see. 2) Go to the menu "Cheat" and select "Search for new cheats" 3) Select "3 bytes" [bottom right]. Select "= (Equal to)" [bottom left]. Select "Entered value" [mid]. Enter the value of your gold into the box. Hit search [top right]. 4) Do something in the game to change your gold (such as buying an item) 5) Repeat step 3 for your new value of gold. If you have more than one address at this point, repeat steps 4 and 5. If you have only one address, continue to step 6. 6) Select the value, and press Add cheat [top right]. Note that the value for your gold uses 3 bytes, so you will need to put in 3 cheats, each of value 255 or less. For the first one, put 255 into "New Value", and hit OK. 7) Click Add cheat again, and increase the address value by one (in hexadecimal). For example, 7E8886 becomes 7E8887, 7E0009 becomes 7E000A, 7F220F becomes 7F2210. Then put 255 into "New Value" again, and hit OK. 8) Once again, hit Add cheat. Raise the address value by another one. (If it was 7E000E at first, you would change it to 7E000F second, and 7E0010 now). Same as before, enter a value into "New value". How about 250 this time, so your gold isn't totally maxed out? (I fear that something would go wrong if you had the absolute maximum and receive a large sum of money, but it probably wouldn't). Hit OK, and also close out of the cheat-search window. 9) Your gold didn't change!? It actually has, but the game doesn't have any reason why it should display your gold again. Why would gold change on a status menu? In the game, just close the menu and open it again (to display your gold again) and VOILA! you now have about 6.4 million gold. You will always have exactly that amount, even if you buy things or loot monsters. You still don't have that much gold? Make sure your cheats are turned on. You can edit them under "Cheat" --> "Game Genie, Pro Action Replay Codes". And there should be an option under "Cheat" labelled "Apply Cheats". If that doesn't work, maybe you found the wrong value for your gold. Try again from step 1. Try changing things around. If you know base16 numbers (hexadecimal), you can find values that will add up to a nice number (for example, exactly 5,000,000). Wow, I wrote a lot. -------------
