Here's what I can suggest

Posted by captainobvious on .
List of games I recommend (in recommendation order, more or less)
SNES
*Actraiser - Alternates between Action sequences and city-building/protecting.
*Magic Sword - Tower climbing, on a heroic level.
*Tales of Phantasia - I haven't played it much, but I hear it's good. Something tells me "Star Ocean", but I've never played it.
*Dragon View - Also known as Drakkhen II. Be sure NOT to play this on SNES9X, as it crashes at a late point in the game. (At least, I hear it only crashes on SNES9X. I didn't play through the game again on another emulator yet.) Either way, I enjoyed it up to that point. Note: Drakkhen (1) isn't nearly as good.
*Ys III: Wanderer's from Ys (I haven't tried the other Ys games.)
*Legend of the Mystical Ninja
*EVO: The Search for Eden - You don't level up, you EVOLVE.
*Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen Sorta real-time. It's a really long game though, and still somewhat turn-based. Give it a try, but don't feel bad if you give up on it (or if you want to use a strategy guide. You may need to memorize one).

NES
*Kirby's Adventure - Not really an RPG, but still fun.
*Crystalis - Originally titled "God Slayer" in Japan. What fun!
*The Guardian Legend - Sci-fi, vertical-shoot'em-ups, but very cool.
*Armed Dragon Fantasy Villgust - The name says it all.
*Magician - Kinda slow, but you could give it a try.
*River City Ransom
*Star Tropics - A kid with a yo-yo!

The new Castlevania games are good (I'm a fan of Circle of the Moon, myself).

Hope that keeps you busy!

Ok, if my fave SNES roms are Zelda, Soul Blazer, Secret of Evermore, Seiken Densetsu3, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, and Terranigma, are there any others with similar gameplay (i.e. real-time battle, spells, etc.) you'd think would be cool to a fan of those? I'd appreciate any recommendations, since on nonreviewed vault pages it's hard to tell whether it's fun and zippy or tedious and turn-based.
