The main difficulty that you will have with a $500 pc is the graphics grunt you will need to handle ps3 games well.
The main thing you are up against is that PCs are processors first with graphics bolted on (so to speak).
PS units are specifically designed with some fairly epic graphic capabilities for their cost and generation.
I'm not saying at all that you can't do it but I doubt it'd be easy with a limitied budget.
A soft modded PS3 would be by far a cheaper option and is then a dedicated device... just a thought

Yeah I've watched many of his videos. He does pretty good breakdowns on these units but it's hard to compare them against each other.
