Newer versions of a game also fixed bugs and glitches from the released version back in the day, just like nowadays.
I remembered that a Viewtiful Joe game for the PS2 was released with a glitch that could either erase your entire memory card due to the game saving data that was not shown, brake it or even brick the console in some scenarios.
That was later fixed with newer copies and in the platinum version.

The reason this question came up for me is that one of the emulators i use had no cheat codes for the games i have so i had to get an older version of the game.
