It's been patched now thanks to the rom hacking community that fixes all those issues anyway.
Try a game called Lagoon. It is extremely bashed on and ripped on for a number of areas (which I can agree to to an extent) but it was one of my favorite adventure RPGs growing up. For the flaws it does have it is still surprisingly captivating, and I indeed strongly recommend at least giving it a try.
