I can help seed the Lego and smash bros games I already play those and have my pc running pretty much from 9am to 8pm every day. Just send me a email to send the files to and I'm ready. The only reason I prefer torrents is because 1. they get faster with the number of times they are used and 2. they can be stopped, moved, or deleted at any time and you can pick right back up where you were any time.
The most expensive part of running a site like this is the recurring (monthly) costs. Vimm could have the best server hardware, but it doesn't matter if he doesn't have the money for a good high-speed fiber connection. Also, setting up a GoFundMe or other conspicuous fundraising is a great way to get sued by Nintendo. The site already got a big DMCA claim and had to remove downloads for a few major IPs.
Hopefully Vimm has good financial security IRL. Myrient is going down because the guy running it couldn't afford to keep it up. He could've moved the site to cheaper infrastructure but I guess he didn't want to skimp on quality. "Quit while you're ahead" I guess.
I would love to see torrents though. Archive.org is hit or miss with torrents.
