Re: 3DS vs. Fat32 format limit

.cci files store the exact data as present on the cartridge. For a 4GB cart, the largest size available on the 3DS, that size is precisely 4 gigabytes (4,294,967,296 bytes).
Fat32 does not have a maximum file size of 4 gigabytes. Fat32 has a maximum file size of 4 gigabytes minus 1 byte. Therefore, a file that is exactly 4 gigabytes, like the largest 3DS games, will not fit on a Fat32 formatted drive.
The good news is, you can't actually run .cci files (or .3ds, they're the same format AFAIK) on a 3DS, even with custom firmware. You have to convert them to .cia first, which will reduce the file size and make the game installable on your 3DS.
I don't have any particular experience with 3ds-to-cia converters myself so I can't recommend any particular one, there are a bunch around, I'd say check out gbatemp.org or just Google it, hopefully one of them works for you.
So, on a custom firmware 3DS the sd card has to be formatted to Fat32, which has a maximum file size of 4gb. But the larger games in the Vault (like Monsnter Hunter 4) look like they have an extra byte or so of data, putting them just over the 4gb limit and cant be loaded onto a Fat32 sd card.
Other .cci games from the Vault work perfectly fine. Is there any way to get these onto my 3ds? Why the extra byte?
