Re: Making a Game Boy Emulator for a college proje

The "private copying exemption" was struck down in 2015, so in the UK, even dumping the ROM yourself is considered copyright infringement. Legally, the only safe way to emulate the game is to use a cartridge adapter to load the code into RAM to be emulated, since RAM is not a permanent medium and thus does not fall under the legal definition of "copying".
You also have the option to use public domain or GPL homebrew games instead of commercial games.
Hey everyone, im trying to make a gameboy emulator for my college project here in the UK, and i was concerned about the specifics of the legality of using roms. I have a physical copy of an original gameboy game. does that mean it is legal for me to install the file for that game or is it still copyright infringement. hopefully i have explain my problem well enough to grt any help. many thanks!
