Probably should add...

Anyone looking for PS2-type control on the xbox 360 controller should look to XBCD drivers (Link). I used these and they seem to work, but I opted to use the basic WinXP driver as it met my limited needs at the moment.

Thanks moominlord and Dhaos.

I bought an xbox 360 wired controller(non-PC version) based on that advice. I'm playing Tomb Raider games on PC and the Rumblepad2's D-pad makes a high-pitched clackety noise that was bringing me out of the game.

The x360 feels nice and is quiet. The driver didn't work for my purposes because of the trigger mapping, so I reverted to the WinXP basic driver and use JoyToKey and the in-game config for mapping.
